"In the outlying reaches of the Yumerian Empire lived a people known as the Omanti. The Omanti were native to a large chain of islands that were never completely pacified. For centuries, the Omanti waged a war of piracy against the Yumerian navy. These pirates, known as Shark Raiders, were so successful in harassing the Yumerians that direct imperial rule was eventually withdrawn. The Shark Raiders were masters of naval combat, using their smaller, faster ships to outrun and outmaneuver the Yumerian fleet. The Raiders were also fierce fighters with excellent armor and weapons. In time, the Yumerians would hire Shark Raider mercenaries to serve in their military campaigns."
