The early Estian peoples that settled in the low-lying swamplands between the river deltas that covered much of Estia were regarded as some of the greatest rangers and scouts that ever lived. The harsh environment was an unforgiving teacher - it teemed with deadly animals and disease-bearing insects, stifled and suffocated with its fierce climate and humidity, and exhausted with terrain that required both climbing and swimming. Death lurked in every tree, pond, hollow log, and moss bed. Yet, in time, this deadly environment became both the familiar home of every Estian and a powerful weapon to ward off invaders.
