"The Machanite cavalry was perched atop the hill for the better part of the day when their warhorn sounded in the distance and the earth began to move. Our warhorn answered, and General Raltheyis led our counter charge with his magnificent sword extended. With the natural advantages of the sun at their backs and holding the higher ground, the Machanites expected to charge right through us and break our line. The last thing they expected was for us to hide camouflaged pikemen in the long shadows of the hillside crags formed by the "advantageous" position of the sun and slaughter them. Our warhorn sounded again, and at the last possible moment we split right down the middle and moved to flank them. Those that turned their eyes towards our distraction - even for a second - did not have time to react to the spears being raised at them. Thousands were impaled instantly, and the Machanite cavalry's vanguard was soon completely surrounded as we enveloped three sides of their entire formation. When the first of their rear guard fell to us, they broke. The air filled not with the sound of swords upon swords, but the sounds of hooves shattering bone and swords rending flesh. That day was but the first that the Machanite armies would hurl themselves against us, but it was the last that they underestimated us."
