Duels Core Set IV

The first Darian Mages practiced their magics in a tower in the center of their city known as the Spire of Darius. The Darian School of Magic held one of the longest records of instruction without accidents in the known world before the tower was suddenly and violently destroyed. Two particularly gifted students took it upon themselves to sneak out of their quarters late at night to duel in the empty tower. One of the students' spells went horribly awry and tore a hole across worlds (or possibly dimensions), ripping a massive, tower-like crystal from some other plane into this one. The crystal entered the world about halfway up the tower and rose vertically a thousand feet, splitting the tower along its central axis and splintering violently where the roof was torn apart. Incredibly, nobody in or around the tower was harmed in any way. The students were severely punished, but the Mages of Darias later pardoned them after discovering the massive magical powers the crystal held. Small pieces were chipped off of the whole and turned into incredibly potent magical implements. To possess an eponymous Spire of Darias is a privilege held by few and coveted by many.
