"The first action of the High Phearaux, upon being raised to the throne, is to choose their successor. In a lavish ceremony, each kitten born that day is brought before the new High Phearaux and weighed against the Seba, a black ceremonial housecat. The first child to balance the scale is spirited away to a temple in the mountains, far away from the city of Kehra. Beginning that day, the next Phearaux's training begins. This tradition has been effective in training new rulers. However there have been exceptions, such as High Phearaux Gelzekahr, who was killed by a raging Hippopat the day after his coronation, leaving newborn Hev-he-Olo the infant ruler of the Abtu-Kahn."
